Augmentative and Alternative Communication

What is AAC?

AAC (Augmentative/Alternative Communication) refers to the supplementation or replacement of speech using unaided or aided methods. These methods include the use of sign language systems and communication boards as well as sophisticated, computerized devices which may produce speech sounds.

What are AAC services at CMU?

CMU's AAC services provide resources, evaluations, equipment access/programming, and therapeutic instruction for individuals who are unable to use functional communication through traditional speech-language therapy.
