King-Chavez-Parks Program


KCP studentsCentral Michigan University and the King/Chavez/Parks (KCP) Initiative Fund of the State of Michigan sponsored six workshops this past June. The main purpose of the workshops is to expose students from under- represented groups to a college experience.

KCP workshopThe Herbert H. and Grace A. Dow College of Health Professions (CHP) presented a weeklong program, as part of the KCP initiative. This workshop was designed to provide students with a broader understanding of the various health professions while exploring personal characteristics necessary for self –identifying a career direction. Twelve CHP faculty and numerous graduate and undergraduate students participated in the workshop. Twenty-six high school students were KCP workshopprovided information and hands on activities in the area of speech/language pathology, audiology, physical therapy, sports medicine, health fitness, physical education, medicine and Internet search skills. In addition, students learned the basics of communicating through finger spelling and sign language.
