The courses listed below are required by all students interested in pursuing the Athletic Training Major. It will likely take a student a minimum of three semesters to complete the Pre-Professional courses and all selection criteria to be an eligible candidate for selection.

ATR 180 (2) Introduction to Athletic Training
ATR 190 (2) Fundamentals of Injury Prevention
ATR 282* (3) Anatomical Aspects of Athletic Training
ATR 283* (1) Athletic Training Directed Observation
HSC 106 (3) Personal Health
HSC 214* (4) Human Anatomy
HSC 215* (4) Human Physiology
PES 115 (2) Fundamental Motor Skills

*20 hours of actual grades


Additional Selection Criteria:
Must achieve a C or better in the following University Program courses:
HEV 100 (3) OR PSY 100 (3)
CHM 120 (4), 127 (1) OR CHM 131 (4)

NOTES: *Check course co- or prerequisites
+HEV 100 (3) Satisfies UP Group IIIA or BS Plan B Area 3

To assist students with scheduling their first semester, as a prospective athletic training major at Central Michigan, the faculty advisors suggest the following schedule.

POSSIBLE FIRST SEMESTER COURSE SCHEDULE
Suggest a 14-16 credit hour load

  • ATR 180 (2) OR ATR 190 (2)
  • PES 115 (2) OR HSC 106 (3)
  • Anatomy -- HSC 214 (4) OR HSC 211 (3)

      General Education courses: 7-9 credit hours

  •     HEV 100 (3) OR PSY 100 (3)

 

Other Course considerations:
HPS 101(2) or LIB 197(1), HSC 201 (2) Medical Terminology
University Program: Nutrition, Psychology, Chemistry, Physics, Biology

Students are encouraged to meet with their major advisor before the next semester scheduling phase to discuss the sequencing of the remaining athletic training Pre-Professional courses.
