Student Hearing Evaluations

All undergraduate CMU students are required to get their speech and hearing screened prior to graduation. The purpose of this screening is to ensure that all students have access to needed services so they can excel in the workforce. This screening is provided once a semester or by appointment and is free of charge. This test battery includes:

  • Pure-tone testing - A soft, foam earphone is inserted into the ear and the student is asked to respond to tones presented at 20 dB. The softest sounds heard are then plotted on an audiogram (hearing chart) for frequencies between 500-4000 Hz.
