HANDS FOR HEALTH
Hands for
Health (HfH) is a student-managed clinic that serves members of
the greater Mt. Pleasant community who are uninsured, or
otherwise unable to pay for needed Physical Therapy Services.
Our goal is to provide direct patient care services in the realm
of Physical Therapy, as well as community outreach programs for
individuals and small groups. This clinic also provides
clinic-based educational opportunities for individuals currently
enrolled in the Graduate Program in Physical Therapy at Central
Michigan University. Hands-for-Health is staffed by graduate
students and faculty from the Doctorate in Physical Therapy (DPT)
Program. The students provide the appropriate level of patient
care based on their educational and clinical experience, while
faculty-clinicians supervise and provide guidance on treatment
strategies and clinical practice.
The HfH
Clinic has been in operation since January of 1998 and is
currently run in 2138 Health Professions Building in the Carls
Center. The patient population base is primarily orthopedic, but
we have seen a number of patients with neurologic impairment,
geriatric and pediatric clients, and university-aged students
with athletic injuries. The available equipment in the clinic is
state-of-the-art and we are able to provide isokinetic
functional testing and treatment with a computer-aided
dynamometer machine.

Special thanks is extended to Central Michigan Community
Hospital, who was the original co-sponsor when the clinic
opened at Wellness Central. Hands for Health is
indebted to CMCH for use of its facilities, clinical supervisors
during its Wednesday night operations, and its leadership in
making the Hands for Health Clinic a reality and success. |
