Program Improvement Model / Links / Why a Physical Education Service Center / Vision for Michigan Schools
General Information
Michigan is facing a major problem with increases in obesity and sedentary lifestyles. Schools and universities are trying to combat these health risks by educating students in school settings. The Center for the Enhancement of Physical Education Programming (CEPEP) is a service at CMU that works to conduct research and provide information and materials for schools in Michigan in efforts to improve the quality of the educational experience of students.
CEPEP is headed by project director, Ray Allen, Ph.D., director of operations, Monica Folske, M.S., and Research Analyst, Silvana Spindler, M.A. They are committed to working with physical educators across Michigan so that they are better equipped to help their students become fit, be competent movers, and acquire the character traits that help them function successfully in social situations.
Mission & Goals
The mission of CEPEP is to assist school districts in Michigan with the services, materials, and support they need to develop programs of physical education that effectively impact the quality of the lives of those they serve.
CEPEP aims to help schools engage in program design and revision, implementing effective instruction, and participating in regular evaluation practices that result in continuous program improvement. Materials and procedures are created that facilitate effective instruction, assessment and professional development.
Another goal is to engage in collaborative research with practitioners on common problems of practice. The researchers constantly search for innovative procedures and products that contribute to changing the practice of teaching as society changes.
