For Clinical Care and Education

 

Carls Center for Clinical Care and Education is a multidisciplinary clinic located in the Health Professions Building on the campus of Central Michigan University offering services in the fields of Audiology, Psychology, and Speech-Language Pathology.  The Physical Therapy Hands-for-Health Clinic also operates out of the Carls Center.

The Carls Center for Clinical Care and Education is a dynamic collaborative community of practitioner/scholars committed to providing compassionate healthcare through excellence in education, service and research.

Clinical Services

 

The Carls Center brings together Central Michigan University's Physical Therapy Clinic, the Psychology Training and Consultation Center, and the Speech, Language, and Hearing Clinic, in one multidisciplinary clinic.

 

Here is a look at some of the services available through the Carls Center:

 

Audiology Services 

The CMU Audiology Department is one of the largest Audiology clinics in Michigan. CMU provides the most comprehensive Audiology services in Mid-Michigan and serves persons of all ages.

  • Cochlear Implant

  • Hearing Aid

  • Newborn and Infant Diagnostics

  • Recreational Hearing Damage Research

  • Student Screenings

  • Vestibular

Physical Therapy Services 

The Physical Therapy Clinic provides services to patients and clients who have impairments, functional limitations, disabilities, or changes in physical function and health status resulting from injury, disease or other causes.

  • Hands for Health

Psychology Services 

This center offers state-of-the-art psychological services to infants, children, adolescents, adults, and the elderly in individual , couple, family, or group formats. The general clinic uses a sliding fee scale that is based on annual income and the number of dependents.

Speech-Language Pathology Services 

These clinics offer diagnostic and treatment services for people of all ages with speech or language impairments related to neurological disease and brain injury, speech and language delay, developmental disorders, hearing impairment, stuttering, voice disorders, or foreign accent.

Fall and Balance Center for Assessment and Rehabilitation CMU's Fall and Balance Center focuses on fall prevention, assessment, and rehabilitation for balance disorders. The Fall and Balance Center serves as a clearinghouse for the dissemination of fall prevention and balance assessment-related resources and best practices by providing access to information via the Web, written materials, workshops, symposiums, and conferences that foster awareness and enhance the health care workforce skills in central and northern Michigan.

Hours of Operation

The Carls Center office is open from 8am to 5pm Monday through Friday.  Appointment Schedules vary by discipline.  Audiology appointments are available from 9am to 4pm Monday through Thursday.  Physical Therapy Appointments are in the evenings.  Psychology appointments are available during both day and evening hours.  Speech-Language Pathology appointments are available during both day and evening hours.

How do I schedule an appointment?

You may call and schedule an appointment with the Carls Center or you may have your health care provider, caretaker, guardian call to schedule the appointment, 989-774-3904.  Our staff will assist you or the caller with finding an appropriate appointment for you.  We do ask that the person making the appointment have access to information regarding any health insurance you may have; including carrier name, contract number, and that they have the name of your family or primary healthcare physician.

Referral Procedures

Some of the services we provide require you to have a referral from your family or primary care physician in order for us to bill your insurance company.  We will be asking you questions when we schedule to help determine if a referral is needed.  The Carls Center office staff will contact your doctor about obtaining this referral.  If we have been unable to obtain this referral we will contact you prior to your appointment.
