Thomas J Masterson, Jr, PhD
Interim Dean
Thomas J. Masterson, Jr., Ph.D. is the interim Dean of The
Herbert H. and Grace A. Dow College of Health Professions.
Doctor Masterson started his CMU career as an Assistant
Professor in the School of Health Sciences, later becoming an
Associate Professor. He assumed the role of Chairman for the
School of Health Sciences in 2004. Throughout his career, Dr.
Masterson has served on various search committees and in other
capacities representing the College of Health Professions, in
addition to participating in a variety of professional
organizations.
Dr. Masterson holds Bachelor’s degrees in Anthropology and
History, a Master’s degree in Biological Anthropology, and a
Doctoral degree in Biological Anthropology with a minor in
Anatomy, all from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He
teaches courses in Human Anatomy and Pathophysiology. Throughout
his career, Dr. Masterson has taught Gross Human Anatomy for
Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, and Physician Assistant
programs at various universities. His research interests include
Arthrokinematics, functional morphology and craniofacial growth.

Bradford L. Swartz
Interim Associate Dean
Brad Swartz earned his Baccalaureate and Master’s degrees from
Central Michigan University in Communication Disorders and
Speech-Language Pathology. In 1988, he earned his Doctorate
degree from Michigan State University with a concentration in
speech science and minors in administration and computer
science. Prior to working at CMU, Dr. Swartz was employed by
the Michigan Department of Mental Health at the Regional Center
for Developmental Disabilities at Caro. There he served as the
director of the Speech, Language and Hearing Department. In
1980, he returned to CMU as director of the Summer Remedial
Clinics, a residential, intensive clinical program for children
with communication disabilities. Dr. Swartz joined the faculty
in the Department of Communication Disorders in 1985, where he
taught undergraduate and graduate courses and supervised
clinical practicum. In 2000 he began training graduate
students in endoscopic evaluations of the hypopharynx and has
supervised their practice in cooperation with two area
otolaryngology surgeons. Dr. Swartz’s research interests are in
the areas of acoustic phonetics and pedagogy. He has served two
terms as academic division director of Speech-Language Pathology
and served on or chaired a number of division, department,
college and university committees. During the 2006-2007
academic year, Dr. Swartz chaired the CMU Academic Senate.
Since 2003, he has worked with CMU’s Off Campus Programs as a
member of the Prior Learning Assessment Team. With the
exception of one year living on an island in Florida, Dr. Swartz
is a life long resident of the central Michigan area.

Timothy
Pletcher
Director of Applied Research
Tim Pletcher is the Director of Information Technology for the
college where he is responsible for the technology associated
with the new building and the project management of the Rural
Telehealth and Community Education Network (RTCEN). Tim also shares
a joint appointment with the Center for Applied Research and Technology
where he conducts business intelligence and data mining projects.
Prior to coming to CMU he worked at a start-up corporation in
New York City and worked for over ten years at the University
of Michigan Health System in advanced technology and IT support. Tim earned his B.S. from the University of Michigan.

Clint
Fitzpatrick
Director of Admissions and Enrollment Management
Originally from Southern California, Clint Fitzpatrick comes to
the Herbert H. and Grace A. Dow College of Health Professions
with nine years of admissions experience. He received both his
B.A. and M.Ed. from Westminster College in Salt Lake City, Utah, where he
also served as Associate
Director of Undergraduate Admissions and then Director of
Graduate Admissions and Recruitment.
In addition to working in higher education,
Clint has also opened a bar in Kvitjell, Norway, has worked
as a stage manager in the 2002 Olympics, traveled extensively in
Southeast Asia and worked as a media liaison for country music
bands SheDaisy and Rascal Flatts.

Darryl Sczepanski
Director of Development
A native
of the Bay City/Midland area, Darryl began his advancement career as
a writer while attending Delta College. After graduate school,
he became director of college relations at Sheldon Jackson
College in Sitka, Alaska He had similar duties at University
School of Milwaukee. Given an opportunity to manage his own
program and become a supervisor led him to Michigan
Technological University in 1976, where he served as news bureau
director for five years.
Darryl
returned to fundraising in 1981, where he began a nine-year term
at the University of Minnesota-Duluth, first as director of
alumni relations/annual fund and later as director of university
relations with the addition of the news, publications and
photography offices. Sczepanski spent three years as a
college-based fundraiser on the University of Colorado's Boulder
campus. He eventually moved back to the Midwest, where he
reorganized the alumni and development staffs at Marquette
University and assisted the transition from the school's
longtime nickname of Warriors to Golden Eagles. He also served
as an associate vice president at Illinois Institute of
Technology and as a college-based fundraiser at the University
of Illinois at Chicago. Darryl served as Vice President of
University Advancement at Kettering University and most recently
as Vice President for Advancement and Executive Director of the
EMU Foundation at Eastern Michigan University.
Darryl
received his master's degree in public relations from Ball State
University and his bachelor's degree in journalism/business
administration from Central Michigan University.

Carrie
Appold
Business Coordinator
Carrie Appold received her BBA/Accounting from Northwood University and her MBA from Saginaw Valley State University. She is a Certified Management Accountant [CMA] and Certified in Production and Inventory Management [CPIM]. She joined the Herbert H. and Grace A. Dow College of Health Professions Dean's Office in December, 2003. Prior to joining CMU, Carrie was the Cost Accounting Manager at the Delfield Company in Mt. Pleasant, MI.

Colleen
Divine
Security & Events Coordinator
Colleen Divine received her B.A. in Personnel Administration
from Michigan State University. Prior to her appointment with
The Herbert H. and Grace A. Dow College of Health Professions ,
she worked in the College of Education, Health, and Human
Services Dean’s Office as well as the Employee Relations Office.

Kristi
Wood
ExecutiveSecretary
Kristi Wood joined The Herbert H. and Grace A. Dow College of
Health Professions Dean's Office in December 2001. Kristi brings
extensive experience encompassing administrative, secretarial,
managerial, customer service and computer applications. Kristi
is a life-long resident of the area.

Barb McIntyre
Administrative Secretary
Barb McIntyre joined Central Michigan University, The Herbert H.
and Grace A. Dow College of Health Professions, in January 2000,
as support staff to the Dean’s Office. In March, she transferred
to the Admissions and Enrollment Management and Development
Offices within the college where her duties include providing
support to both Directors and graduate-level admission activity
database development and administration . Prior to joining CMU,
Barb worked as Executive Secretary and Office Manager at Ginter
& Company, LLC, and has also supported administrative functions
while employed with the Dow Chemical Company where she was
trained as an ISO auditor and received the secretarial Diamond
Award for excellence.

Betty Schulte
Secretary
Betty Schulte joined The Herbert H. and Grace A. Dow College of
Health Professions in March 2006. She is a graduate of
Ferris State University and is a life long resident of the area.
Prior to joining CMU, Betty worked at Sacred Heart Academy, JC
Penny, and Dow Chemical.
