Health Professions Residential College

 Pat Cwiek

I’d like to introduce myself to you.  My name is Mrs. Pat Cwiek (pronounced “Swik”) and I am the Director of the Health Professions Residential College program.  It is my pleasure to welcome you to The Herbert H. and Grace A. Dow College of Health Professions. In collaboration with the Office of Residence Life we have designed a residential program that is intended to provide you with unique and convenient learning opportunities and facilitate the development of life-long relationships that can assist you in fulfilling your career objectives.  Course work related to the health professions is typically rigorous and challenging, requiring students to be committed and focused from the beginning of their college experience. Living in a situation that nurtures, supports and reinforces effective learning can provide you with better study strategies, increased opportunity for health related experiences and a network of professionals that can guide you in planning your program and your future.

The Health Professions Residential College (HPRC) is a learning community within the university that supports undergraduate students who are pursuing health-related professions . This unique living-learning environment helps prepare students for an optimal college experience and for future success in a health related career. Students who choose this friendly, supportive community are given opportunities to excel individually and as part of a team through programming focused on academics, community building, volunteer service and leadership development.

In addition, residential college students have the added

advantage of receiving:

  • early exposure to various careers,

  • supportive upper-class peers,

  • peer mentors on staff to assist and guide them,

  • and increased faculty and staff interaction.

For serious students, the HPRC offers an educational environment and social atmosphere that places them on a fast track for success at CMU and in achieving their career goals.

We offer a limited number of freshman the opportunity to participate in the HPRC.  There are no additional fees for living in the Residential College.

Residential Colleges in Woldt/Emmons Hall

The "HPRC", located on the second and third floors of Emmons Hall, is one of three residential colleges housed within the Woldt/Emmons Residence Hall Complex.

These communities provide students with:

  • a common living area

  • the ability to take core classes together

  • to form study groups

  • to share outside co-curricular activities

The HPRC encourages academic excellence, early involvement in professional activities and civic engagement; all building blocks

to becoming a successful future professional.
