The goals of the RTCEN network project emphasize health information services, educational activities and health informatics applications designed to improve access, efficiency, and quality of health care information and services provided in targeted underserved rural communities and strives to:
  • promote health as a community asset particularly to rural and medically underserved areas
  • support community-based health and human service agency needs, while minimizing gaps and redundancies in coverage
  • provide and disseminate health and wellness information about best practices
  • develop information technology resources consistent with industry standards
  • complement and enhance other existing telehealth services
  • partner with health care providers and systems to improve wellness offerings
  • leverage CMU faculty expertise and student involvement in the community
  • serve the best interests and on-demand needs of the public to improve health self-efficacy
  • accommodate various literacy levels and reflect appropriate sensitivity to age, physical, and cultural considerations
The Rural Telehealth and Community Education Network is made possible through a federal grant from the Office for the Advancement of Telehealth which is a division of Health and Human Services.
